Adult Protective Services
Our Vision We work to create inclusive communities where people with developmental disabilities have access to the supports they need to live safely and as independently as possible.
Our Mission The Adult Protective Services Program delivers a service which is responsive to the unique needs of adults with developmental disabilities, respecting choices and promoting full inclusion in our communities.
About our Services
The Adult Protective Services Program helps adults who have a developmental disability and who live on their own in the community. Adult Protective Services Workers (APSW) help individuals find the right supports to be able to have more independence and choice. APSW's can help people plan for their future and link with formal government funded services. Adult Protective Services is a voluntary program working to support inclusion and life goals.

Program Objectives
- CASE MANAGEMENT: APSWs are responsible for overseeing the implementation and monitoring of the service plan to meet the needs of the person with the developmental disability.
- ADVOCACY: APSW program advocates on behalf of individuals to ensure that their rights are acknowledged and not compromised.
- EMOTIONAL SUPPORT: is provided to individuals and/or their caregiver(s) as required in all aspects of their lives.
- CRISIS MANAGEMENT: is offered when individuals in the program need assistance in adapting to and/or coping with unexpected change. It is important to note that this is NOT offered on a twenty-four hour basis, and that unexpected circumstances often interferes with, and takes priority over, scheduled appointments.
- INSTRUMENTAL COUNSELLING: The APSW program provides lifeskills assistance and/or instruction. This is offered to clients of the program who live independently and may require assistance with daily living. It can also be offered to those transitioning from home.
